Zoo & Aquarium

The Singapore zoo is a blast.  It's located in the north of Singapore close to the three reservoirs that store the drinking water for the city/ country.  Set in a jungle, many of the exhibits bring you nose to nose with the animals.
There is a bathing pool in the middle of the zoo that two elephants get to use each morning... only the ones that behave the day before get to go.

A large number of primates including the orang utans range in the trees beside and above the walking paths without any fences.  The small monkeys are trained to stay in about 5 meter treed habitats that allow you to almost touch noses with them.  The larger ones seem happy to stay above the crowds.

The polar bear was born at the zoo and has a massive cooled swimming pool and an air conditioned room... but he seems to spend a lot of time in the open air.  Must be better acclimatized than we are!

This orb web spider is about 8" and found everywhere in the Singapore woods (not just at the zoo) and typically weaves it's web at about head height...

The extensive aquarium on Sentosa Island is really impressive.  It is set in a Disneylike park but the exhibits are on par with the Monterey Bay aquarium.  It's likely best to visit weekdays as the weekend crowds left us feeling a bit like schooling fish.
