Palau Ubin

Palau Ubin is an island north of Singapore that was quarried for granite.  The old quarries are now small lakes and swamps and the island is a weekend destination for fishermen, bikers, hikers and campers.  There is one small town located at the ferry dock and paved and dirt tracks crisscross the island.
These 'Bumboats' are the ferries from Singapore to Palau Ubin.  Bumboat is derived from a  Dutch word meaning wooden boat.

Our 'fancy' rental bikes

One of the quarries has a mountain biking area with intermediate trails that have double black diamond sections.  They're not as technical as the riding in our area but you have to give them credit for riding in 90 degrees with 70% humidity.  We were drenched just getting to the trail area.
This trail section was beautiful but you don't want to be the first rider of the day.... we found a couple of those gorgeous (and huge) golden orb web spiders on the trail...think I'd crash if I biked through one of those!
The bikers here are decked out with the latest bikes, armor, helmets and technology.  Definite attitude on the bumboat ride home!
