We just arrived into the beautiful chaos that is Bombay/ Mumbai. Our 4th floor apartment is at tree level and the kids are thrilled with the variety of birds (pigeons, songbirds, hawks and parrots). Jex thinks we're better off here than in Singapore. He really likes the vibrancy of the city and our spacious new home. He's now 6'3 and his feet dangle off the end of his single bed but that doesn't seem to bother him at all.
Pali Market (above) is several blocks from our house and a wild place to shop for anything from veggies to hardware to alcohol and imported cheeses. You just have to be careful that you are not run over by a tuk tuk (small three wheeled taxi) in the process.
Our driver, Ganesh, has been a lifesaver here. Not only can he negotiate the crazy, laneless roads (no street signs anywhere) but he's been wonderful at steering us to the expat grocery store, good gyms and explaining bits of the culture to us.
Kida broke her arm in a judo competition in Jakarta (two days prior to arriving in Mumbai). It was a slow process and quite distressing getting us all back to Singapore where they could set it properly. Once we arrived in Mumbai it took us a few days to find a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Kida’s arm had been set in plaster in Singapore (without surgery) but needed to be put into a new cast this week after the initial swelling had gone down. One of the two broken bones had slipped a bit so it was successfully realigned (again without surgery) and Kida now sports a fancy blue cast. In 6 weeks she’ll be as good as new….
